Get your ducks in a row

duck

In anticipation of the season that is upon us, I’ll be posting some headband DIYs. The first is my lovely rubber duckie number.
I came across the mini rubber duckies while on a trip to Belfast with my sister, and they were the perfect size. The Blair Waldorf hairbands of the naughties seem to be in short supply these days so I had to fashion my own from a plastic bottle. I sought out a Kerry Spring one as they have a much larger circumference and also I didn’t need much of an excuse to consume some cream soda!

     What I used:
– scissors
– felt (any colour)
– larch clean plastic bottle
– glue gun
– rubber duckies (optional!)
– leis or fake flowers
– elastic (preferably 1 inch thick)

.

.

.

I started by making the headband from scratch I cut the plastic bottle in the shape of a wide alice band, then cut the felt to match.

The felt stops the plastic catching on your hair and makes the headband much more comfortable.
Next I positioned and then glued the ducks.

Once the ducks were positioned I began placing the lei petals around them

Continue with placing the petals until the band is covered and very full.

Then enjoy whichever festival you are going to.

For Prisoner #97A6595

Quote taken from the film, Party Monster.

Prisoner #97A6595 aka Michael Alig was released from  prison yesterday. He started it all, one of the original Club Kids along with New York legend James st James. The quote is taken from the movie Party Monster that depicted their very fabulous lives during the rise of the Club Kids. While the story is tragic, climaxing in the death of Andre “Angel” Melendez (the crime which Alig has been serving time for these past 17 years) the theatre, spectacle and opulence is infectious. In anticipation of his release, James st James penned a letter to Alig filling him in on what has been going on these past years, it is well worth a read. The quote above sums up the entire philosophy of their way of life. I find the various costumes and get-ups so fantastical, going out should be more than an event. Your outfit should be an event. I think it does the soul good to dress up every once in a while.
